Yesterday, Stuart Hillen, Eku Energy’s Director of Development and Country Lead Australia, joined industry leaders on the panel Simply the BESS – Building Battery Power in Gippsland at the Gippsland New Energy Conference in Traralgon.

The discussion highlighted how large-scale battery storage is becoming the backbone of Gippsland’s renewable energy future.

With one project already operational, the 150 MW / 150 MWh Hazelwood BESS, and another in development, the 300 MW / 1200 MWh Tramway Road BESS, Eku Energy was able to contribute valuable insights into how storage is enabling clean energy growth, strengthening the grid, and opening doors for innovation.

The conversation underscored Gippsland’s pivotal role in Victoria’s energy transition, with major projects already underway and more on the horizon. Stuart highlighted the importance of trusted partnerships and long-term vision in delivering the infrastructure needed for a net zero future. Battery storage, he noted, is not only critical to supporting renewables but also to ensuring reliability and resilience in the grid as coal retires and clean generation takes its place.

Eku Energy is proud to contribute to this important conversation and to play a role in advancing energy storage solutions that power progress for communities, energy security and the environment.
