Tramway Road BESS

The planning application was lodged with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Development Approval was granted on October 31, 2025. The application was refined by the project team based on stakeholder feedback, technical and environmental assessments. We thank everyone in the community who provided feedback and input via email or during our Community Drop-In Session in November 2024 and at our attendance at the Churchill Markets in May 2025. The final layout will be shared in due course.

A range of local workforce and suppliers are required for battery projects. Eku Energy will actively seek to identify and engage local contractors, workers and suppliers as part of the design and construction of Tramway Road BESS. Eku Energy also welcomes input from the local community on the design of the Powering Big Dreams benefit sharing program for Tramway Road BESS to deliver direct community benefit. These include: Employment and education initiatives to support educational and employment outcomes- Social connectedness initiatives to support community connectedness, wellbeing and livability- Environmental initiatives that drive sustainability outcomes

Eku Energy have lodged a planning application with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP). The planning application process is likely to continue throughout 2025. Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to commence in 2026 and continue for approximately 18 months. The BESS is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 and will have a design life of over 20 years.

Once the Department of Transport and Planning is satisfied that all relevant information has been received, the proposal will be placed on public notification. During the public notification period, the local community and other stakeholders will be invited to review the proposal and lodge a submission to the Department to provide feedback.Written formal notification will be provided by DTP as required by the Planning and Environment Act 1987. A planning permit from the Victorian Minister for Planning will be required for the project to proceed, along with other regulatory requirements.
