Naganohara BESS

Delivering grid stability in a constrained network.

We welcome the partnership with Gunma Prefecture to develop, construct and operate Naganohara BESS.

Project overview

We recently purchsed the land to build the Naganohara BESS in close partnership with Gunma Prefecture. The proposed project, with an indicative capacity of 30MW/120MWh, is scheduled to start operations in 2029.

Gunma Prefecture is located within TEPCO, one of the most complex and heavily loaded grids in Japan. The proposed Naganohara BESS will help to mitigate curtailment of solar generation and deliver aggregation of distributed solar into the TEPCO peak market, thus supporting Japan's journey to next zero by 2050.

Once planning approvals have been secured, we negotiate contracts with suppliers and offtakers, and secure financing of the project ahead of financial close.

Current Status
3. Construction

We mobilise to site for ground-breaking and start building the project.

Current Status
4. Operations

Now the BESS is ready to deliver additional storage capacity to the grid and is managed by a team to ensure it operates as intended.

Current Status
5. Decommissioning

After 20+ years of its intended operational life, the BESS is decommissioned and the site is restored.
