Eku Energy Japan Co., Ltd., the Japanese subsidiary of Eku Energy, a global developer, investor, and operator of battery storage projects, today announced that it has signed a land purchase agreement with the Gunma Prefectural Enterprise Bureau (Director: Masashi Narita) for the development of the Naganohara BESS.
The signing of this agreement marks a significant milestone in this project, which has been advanced over approximately three years through collaboration between the Company and Gunma Prefecture, and moves the development into the concrete implementation phase toward the start of operations in 2029.
The Naganohara BESS, to be constructed near Naganohara Town in Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture, is currently planned to have a rated output of 30 MWand a battery storage capacity of 120 MWh, with operations scheduled to begin in 2029. This project is a large-scale initiative, following the "Hirohara BESS" in Miyazaki Prefecture, the "Eshi BESS" in Okayama Prefecture, and the "Kamitonno BESS" in Fukuoka Prefecture which are among the domestic BESS projects announced by our company. Since our establishment in 2022, we have significantly expanded our specialized team and are building a business foundation deeply rooted in the Japanese market.
In the Tokyo Electric Power Company service area, the first output control of renewable energy in the region began in March 2026*,highlighting the growing importance of flexible electricity supply-demand balancing and stable grid operations as renewable energy deployment continues to expand. Battery energy storage systems play a critical role in enabling greater integration of clean energy into the grid by absorbing and storing surplus renewable electricity, such as solar and wind energy, and supplying it when needed. This project will contribute to supply-demand balancing and grid stability in the Tokyo Electric Power Company service area, while supporting the more effective use of renewable energy and Japan’s transition toward its2050 carbon neutrality goals.
Eku Energy is committed torealizing cost-effective clean energy and accelerating the global energy transition by providing safe and reliable energy storage solutions. Leveraging the extensive experience and expertise of our global organization, we are expanding our business with a deep commitment to the Japanese market. Moving forward, we will continue to work on building next-generation energy infrastructure that supports power grid stabilization and the effective utilization of renewable energy, with the aim of achieving Japan’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal.
