Elias Saba

Chief Technology Officer

Elias Saba is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Eku Energy leading a global team of experts in the Technology, Markets and Trading (TMT) function to deliver best in class battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across Europe, Japan and Australia. As a founding member, Elias alongside other founding members established Macquarie's global energy technology and solutions business and subsequently Eku as a standalone company in 2022.

Elias has led across the revenue origination, strategy and commercialisation of Eku’s first assets, which includes the 150MW/150MWh Hazelwood BESS, 200MW/400MWh Rangebank BESS in Victoria and the 250MW/500MWh Williamsdale BESS in the ACT, as well as more recent projects across the UK and Japan. Elias has established and is responsible for leading the Global TMT function in origination and structuring of revenue contracts, energy markets, asset commercialisation strategy, policy, ongoing operational revenue, trading, and asset management of Eku’s Global BESS fleet and upcoming developments.

With over 15 years of experience in the energy sector, Elias has developed extensive expertise in the technology, commercialisation and management of various energy systems, including energy storage, solar, gas and biogas across several global energy markets. Prior to Eku, Elias led and participated in several key projects at Tesla such as the development of technology, revenue and trading solutions of significant large-scale BESS projects in Australia, most notably the Hornsdale Power Reserve (HPR), Gannawarra BESS, Lake Bonney BESS and the development of Tesla’s South Australia virtual power plant (VPP) program, Australia’s largest VPP to date. Elias also held various technical and commercial roles in the energy at Broadspectrum and Energetics (ERM).

Elias holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and a Master's in Energy Systems (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.

Elias is passionate about accelerating the global transition to a low carbon economy to mitigate the impact of climate change and views Eku’s role as critical in this effort. He is proud to be part of building and directing the growth of Eku from a small number of industry experts coming together with a common vision to a global business with industry leading experts across Australia, Japan, UK and Italy working on a portfolio of 50+ projects. Elias is passionate about bringing people together with a common purpose and in building a great business that has a large and lasting positive impact.
