Basildon BESS is our first two-hour battery in the UK.
To meet net zero by 2050, the UK Government has committed to decarbonise the electricity system by 2035. Battery storage is a critical enabler of this transition, helping to store and shift renewable generation to times of day when it is most needed, while helping to balance electricity supply and demand second-by-second.
Basildon BESS provides vital flexibility to enable more renewable generation and increase the resilience of the UK electricity network. The project supports the National Grid in this important network location close to other generation sources including a solar PV farm and two gas-fired peaking power stations, critical 400 kV Substations and the upcoming grid upgrade from Tilbury to Norwich.
