The proposed Whakamaru North BESS is co-developed by Eku Energy and Helios Energy.
The project is in development with planning and environmental studies underway.
The Whakamaru North Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a proposed energy storage facility located at the intersection of Whakamaru Road and Sandel Road, with a planned connection to Transpower’s Whakamaru North Substation.
Eku Energy is working with Helios Energy, a NZ-based developer of renewable power generation projects.
Located at 51 Sandel Road, Mangakino, the 300MW BESS footprint would occupy 2.5 hectares of the 6.9 hectare land parcel. The project is closest to the township of Whakamaru in the Waikato region of the Taupō District.
