Tokyo, Japan August 4, 2026 – Eku Energy Japan has reached a significant construction milestone at its Hirohara Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, with the successful delivery and installation of all major project equipment, including 32 Tesla Megapack 2 XL battery units.

The project will now move into the next phase of construction, including integration and commissioning activities, system testing, and regulatory inspections. These works will verify the safe and reliable operation of the battery energy storage system and associated infrastructure ahead of the commencement of commercial operations, which remains on track for January 2027.

The Hirohara project is underpinned by a long-term offtake agreement that combines the expertise of Eku Energy Japan and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. Under the arrangement, Eku Energy Japan owns the battery storage asset, while Tokyo Gas will operate the facility over a 20-year term. This structure is designed to support safe, reliable and efficient long-term operations.

The project has also secured project financing from MUFG Bank.
